DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
The use of School Resource Officers (SROs) has been a valuable resource to the schools in El Dorado County. In order to make sure the SROs have necessary equipment it was determined that vehicles outfitted specifically for the SROs would be purchased by EDSO and costs up to $100,000 would be reimbursed by EDCOE prior to the end of FY19/20.
These vehicles will be owned and maintained by the Sheriff’s Office through County Fleet for the duration of their lifetime and will be used by SROs during that timeframe allowing for both EDSO and EDCOE to benefit from this agreement. The cost to purchase the two vehicles is estimated at $90,000, plus an additional $18,000 to equip the vehicles. The unreimbursed amount will be covered by General Fund within the Sheriff's Office.

FINANCIAL IMPACT
There is no Net County Cost associated with this item. Costs for vehicles will be reimbursed by EDCOE up to $100,000. Any unreimbursed amount will be absorbed within the Sheriff's current operating budget from savings in other areas.
