Title

Department of Agriculture, Weights, and Measurers recommending the Board receive and file a presentation from the University of California Cooperative Extension on Forestry and fire extension efforts in the Central Sierra - Responding to local needs.

Body

DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

Presentation on Forestry and fire extension efforts in the Central Sierra - Responding to local needs.  University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE) Presented by Susie Kocher

El Dorado County is part of the larger Central Sierra Multi-County Partnership. Through this partnership El Dorado County houses two advisors, three administrative assistants, and multiple program representatives covering 4-H, Nutrition, Master Gardeners, Natural Resources, and Master Food preservers. UCCE programs have expanded into the Lake Tahoe basin and see continued growth in that area. In addition, because of the Multi-County Partnership three additional advisors cover El Dorado County.

PRIOR BOARD ACTION

On June 6, 2017, the Board approved a five-year extension to the Multi-County partnership Interlocal Agreement resulting in a new expiration date of June 30, 2021.  UCCE El Dorado staff based in the Tahoe Basin presented to the BOS last year to discuss specific accomplishments in that region.

OTHER DEPARTMENT / AGENCY INVOLVEMENT

The UCCE is currently working in Lake Tahoe and Placerville offices with many Advisors and staff working with multiple agencies (local, state, federal, private) to secure grants to improve and increase programming.
