DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
On July 17, 2020, Governor Newsom and the California Department of Public Health issued guidelines relative to the operation of public and private schools for the Fall 2020 school semester. Since that time the Chief Administrative Office and Public Health have been working closely with the Office of Education and the local school districts to identify how those guidelines will impact school operations in El Dorado County.

While the Board of Supervisors does not have any decision making authority regarding school operations in El Dorado County, the re-opening of schools is of community wide interest impacting constituents of the members of the Board of Supervisors. In addition, the County's Public Health Officer plays a role in the decision that will ultimately be made by each of the local school districts. Therefore, it is beneficial for the Board of Supervisors to have an understanding of how the guidelines from the Governor and the California Department of Public Health will impact school operations in El Dorado County and the current status of reopening plans.
