DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
The Sheriff’s Office and Green Valley Mortuary entered into a short-term agreement following the opening of the morgue at the Sheriff’s Public Safety Facility. This agreement allows for Green Valley Mortuary to provide a morgue technician to the Sheriff’s Office on an as needed basis. With the additional seven months added to the term of the agreement, the Sheriff's Office will continue to work with Human Resources to establish a County classification of Morgue Technician. The Sheriff's Office currently is pursuing grants that could possibly fund a full time equivalent position in the Public Safety Facility Morgue. We are also assessing the increase in bodies processed as a result of the newly signed agreement to provide autopsy services for Amador County. The Sheriff's Office will be returning to the Board before the expiration of this contract amendment with a plan for next steps.
Tasks assigned to this individual include, but are not limited to: autopsy setup, prepare bodies for autopsies, record any pivotal information about the decedent, and maintain all equipment.
This agreement has been in place since January 2020 with a current expiration of August 8, 2020. The Sheriff’s Office and Green Valley Mortuary have both agreed to extend the terms of this agreement through February 28, 2020 with current pricing to stay in place.
ALTERNATIVES
The Sheriff’s Office would use the value brought forth by having an onsite morgue technician.
