Title
Supervisor Veerkamp recommending the Board appoint a delegate to an October 29th conference of North State representatives to discuss the re-opening of California's economy, re-opening of schools, and actions in response to the State of California's threat to withhold entitled funds of the counties. (Cont. 10/13/20, Item 16)
Body
DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
On October 1st, members of the California Legislature (Senators Brian Dahle and Jim Nielsen, and Assemblymembers James Gallagher, Kevin Kiley and Megan Dahle) sent a letter to El Dorado County officials expressing concern with Governor Newsom's management of the State response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The legislators complained of executive overreach by the Governor, and especially of his threats to withhold realignment funds from local jurisdictions viewed by the State as noncompliant with its COVID-related restrictions.
The legislators plan to convene a group of North State representatives on October 29th, to "seek common ground on topics such as the re-opening of the economy and our civic life, the re-opening of our schools, and actions in response to the State of California's threat to withhold entitled funds of the counties." They ask that El Dorado County appoint a delegate to the conference.
ALTERNATIVES
The Board could choose not to appoint a delegate to the conference.
