DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
On January 5, 2016, the Board of Supervisors adopted and authorized the Chair to sign Resolution 002-2016 (File 16-0003; #16), permitting the Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) Director, the Chief Probation Officer, and the Sheriff to support “Stepping Up,” a nationwide initiative with the goal of reducing the number of inmates with mental illness in county jails.

On May 22, 2018, (File 18-0771, #17), the Board of Supervisors approved submittal of a grant application to the United States Department of Justice, for the Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Program (JMHCP) grant, in support of Stepping Up and delegated authority to the Chief Probation Officer to accept and administer any awarded grant funding.
