Body

DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

On October 13, 2020, the Board approved and signed Resolution #155-2020 accepting a grant award in the amount of $1,000,000 from the Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC) for the Prop 64 Public Health & Safety grant with a grant performance period of October 1, 2020 through March 31, 2024. Additional Board approval was given on November 17, 2020 authorizing designated Sheriff’s Office staff to act in a certain capacity on behalf of the County regarding the Prop 64.

The Sheriff’s Office is now requesting the Board approve and authorize the Chair to sign the MOU between EDSO and RUSD to reimburse RUSD for expenses related to the Anti-Marijuana Youth Outreach Pilot Program. The Anti- Marijuana Youth Outreach Pilot Program will focus on middle school students and assist in their understanding of the potential risks linked to marijuana use and abuse. EDSO and RUSD staff will work together in presenting this message in both an informative and easy-to-grasp manner so that the students can leave the program with increased resiliency. By providing the appropriate resources to educate the community on and administer the regulations of Prop 64, we believe that we will be able to impact the most vulnerable population for underage cannabis use.

Costs associated with this MOU include staff time, supplies, equipment, and additional expenses as needed. These costs will be utilized to support the Anti-Marijuana Youth Outreach Pilot Program and ensure this program is given every chance to be successful. The not-to-exceed amount of this MOU is $205,950 over the performance period of the grant.

ALTERNATIVES

Not approving this item will result in the RUSD being unable to administer the Anti-Marijuana Youth Outreach Pilot Program.
