Supervisor Thomas recommending the Board consider a request to waive the Temporary Use Permit fees and make a finding that a community benefit exists for the September 2021 Cops & Rodders Show & Shine, Car Show and Fly-in event being coordinated by the CHP Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit corporation.
Body
DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
This event is held in September each year and should have been the 7th annual event in 2021, but due to COVID the 2020 event did not happen. The CHP Foundation will be hosting the 6th Annual Cops & Rodders Show & Shine, Car Show and Fly-in event at the Cameron Park Air Park.
As was mentioned in last year’s board item, the County’s Fee Waiving policy states that fees can only be waived for a specific event, one time, but the language is silent on those annual community events that benefit multiple local organizations.
The CHP Foundation is currently in the process of reviewing and determining how to disperse the proceeds from this year’s event. As the beneficiaries change from year to year they anticipate 35% will go to the CHP Widows & Orphans Fund and past recipients receiving funds have been: El Dorado & Ponderosa High Schools; El Dorado Food Bank; Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless; Center for Violence Free Relationships; Motherlode Rehabilitation Enterprises and CHP Senior Volunteers. The volunteer leadership works directly with the El Dorado Community Foundation to ascertain the identities of local organizations that are in the immediate need for funds.
The CHP Foundation provides a list of the prior year’s event distribution but as no event took place last year, we have provided the distribution from the 2019 event:
The event raised $18,000 and the distribution was as follows:
· $3,000 will stay in the fund as “seed money” for next year
· As a thank-you to the organizations that helped them at the event: for volunteers, location, etc:
· $1,150 to the Cameron Park Airport District
· $500 to EDHS Interact Club
· $500 to EDHS Culin...
