DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

On May 18, 2021 The Board of Supervisors heard Item # 26. 21-0540 from the Hemp Ad Hoc Committee recommending the Board conceptually approve an Ordinance for a permanent ban on hemp cultivation in El

Dorado County. A motion was made by Supervisor Thomas, seconded by Supervisor Novasel to: 1) Direct the Sheriff and the Agricultural Commissioner/Sealer of Weights & Measures to explore Hemp with the Agricultural Commission and return to the Board in November 2021 with a recommendation or update; and 2) Direct the Planning and Building Department Director to explore economic opportunities relative to Hemp with the Community and Economic Development Advisory Committee and return to the Board in November 2021 with a recommendation or update.
