DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

On April 30, 2019, Legistar # 19-0628, your Board approved and accepted the donation of one Polaris General 4 1000 Utility Terrain Vehicle (UTV), Polaris Track System, and Trailer for use in search and rescue operations on the West Slope of the County. The purchase and donation of a second Polaris UTV and trailer for search and rescue operations in Tahoe were planned for a later date.  This second donation is now being brought to your Board for acceptance.

The ESARC was incorporated in 1986 as a non-profit public benefit corporation.  The specific purpose of ESARC is to assist any and all subordinate groups who will recruit, organize, train and provide skilled search and rescue personnel and equipment to assist the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue in all search, rescue, and disaster activities.

The purpose of the first, and this second donation is to greatly enhance the Search and Rescue (SAR) Unit’s mission of providing life-saving assistance to the visitors and citizens of El Dorado County.  The Polaris UTV, with removable tracks, will enable the SAR Team to be more efficient in extreme winter conditions and in remote, rugged terrain.  The 4-passenger capacity of the Polaris UTV will allow the SAR Team to rapidly deploy personnel and equipment into the field to execute a wide variety of search, rescue and extraction/evacuation support missions.

Annual maintenance, and installation and removal of snow tracks will be borne by the Sheriff’s office.

The Sheriff’s Office gratefully accepts this donation from ESARC.
