DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
The 2020-21 Grand Jury published one Final Report on June 30, 2021 on the following subjects:
20-01 County Cemetery Management
20-02 Inspection of County Jail and Juvenile Treatment Center
20-04 Following Up on Mental Health Services Act Fund Spending
20-05 West Slope Emergency Services, Joint Powers Authority and Ambulance.
Under the California Penal Code, sections 933 et. sec., the Board of Supervisors must provide a response to the Presiding Judge of the Superior Court within 90 days of the date that a Final Report is made available to the public. The response to the report is due by September 28, 2021 and the proposed response is therefore being submitted to your Board for approval.
The attached draft response has been prepared in the form prescribed by Penal Code section 933.05 and addresses the findings and recommendations of the Grand Jury for which the Grand Jury requested a response from the Board of Supervisors.

FINANCIAL IMPACT
There is no direct financial impact related to the consideration of the responses. There may be a financial impact related to implementation of certain Grand Jury Recommendations; however, such impact will be identified as staff assesses needs for future action, and will be discussed in future staff reports prior to approval and/or implementation.
