Body

DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

As part of Objective 2.2 of the Good Governance Goal in the Board approved Strategic Plan, Board policies are undergoing a review/update process. On March 6, 2018 the Board revised the Board of Supervisors adopted policy F-8 County Display Cases & Exhibits.

The Board has received items from its sister city in Warabi, Japan. It is the goal of the Board to display these items to demonstrate their appreciation from the city of Warabi, Japan and to share these items with the community. The City of Warabi, Japan has been a sister city to El Dorado County and its communities since 1975. El Dorado County has a special historical connection to Warabi through the Japanese settlers and colonists who traveled to El Dorado County to establish a tea and silk colony under the directions of John Henry Schnell. The Japanese settlers and colonists raised families, establishing a strong bond between El Dorado County and the citizens of Japan.

Through the "People to People International Program" many citizens and groups of students have exchanged visits to host families in El Dorado County and to host families in Warabi. The mission of "People to People International" is to enhance international understanding and friendship through educational, cultural and humanitarian activities involving the exchange of ideas and experiences directly among people of different countries and diverse cultures, promoting peace and understanding.

El Dorado County holds its sister city designation with Warabi, Japan in high regard and placing items received in the display cases in Building A at the main entrance (next to the breezeway) will demonstrate this commitment.

One of the display cases and/or wall areas located in Building A outside of the Board Chambers shall be used to display items representing Veterans. The other display case and/or wall area located in Building A outside the Board Chambers shall be used to display items highlighting El Dorado County and its historical landmarks and attractions.
