Sheriff’s Office recommending the Board:
1) Approve and authorize the Sheriff to participate, apply for and sign the Fiscal Year 2022-23 Boating Safety and Enforcement Financial Aid Contract with the California Department of Parks and Recreation Division of Boating and Waterways in the amount of $319,546 for the term July 1, 2022, through June 30, 2023 to provide revenue to support boating safety and enforcement activities on the County’s rivers and lakes;

DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
Each year the County receives funds from the California Department of Parks and Recreation Division of Boating and Waterways to patrol the County’s rivers and lakes. Funding received by the Sheriff pays for Extra-Help Deputy Sheriffs who patrol rivers and lakes in the unincorporated area of the County from May through September. Funding is also provided for permanent staff who provide river and lake patrol service on a year-round basis, as well as for the supplies and equipment needed to operate the boating program.
