Transportation Department requesting authorization to exercise the option to extend Lease Agreement 304-L0711 with Jeffery Smith for an additional one (1) year term commencing January 1, 2010 and ending December 31, 2010 for the El Dorado County Animal Shelter located at 511 Placerville Drive in Placerville. The lease payments shall be in the amount of $7,960.19 per month for 5,800 square feet at a cost of $1.372 per square foot.
FUNDING: Various fees for services, sales tax realignment revenue, and General Fund.

Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost:
Funding for the Lease Agreement is addressed in the budget for the Health Services Department, Public Health Division, Animal Services program. The Department's FY 09-10 budget includes $94,244 for the 511 Placerville Drive lease, including $46,483 for the period of 7/1/09 through 12/31/09, and $47,761 for the first half of this proposed lease term extension, covering the period of 1/1/10 through 6/30/10. The Department will include the remaining $47,761 for the second half of this proposed term extension in its FY 10-11 budget request.
Background:
Animal Services has leased this facility as temporary housing until the permanent Animal Shelter is constructed. The City of Placerville required the County to acquire a Conditional Use Permit for the use of this facility in 2007, with a term originally expiring on December 31, 2008. On December 2, 2008 the County requested and was granted an extension until January 2, 2011.
