DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

On August 14, 2021, conditions of extreme peril to the safety of persons and property commenced within the County of El Dorado caused by the Caldor Fire.  Significant property damage occurred throughout the County, and the County’s Planning & Building Department embarked on a rebuild effort that involved hiring additional staff, as approved by the Board with Legistar item 21-1722 on November 2, 2021.  Related to this endeavor, the Facilities Division provided space planning and other services to build an additional 24 workstations in Building C.  The inclusion of these 24 additional workspaces required the displacement of a significant volume of building plans and other important documentation.  A shipping container is now needed so that these displaced documents may be stored onsite and accessed regularly by Planning & Building Department Staff.

ALTERNATIVES

The Board could not approve this action and the department would not be able to hire additional staff due to space constraints.
