Information Technologies Department recommending the Board approve the addition of the following to the Information Technologies Fiscal Year 2022-23 Fixed Asset List:
1) One (1) Palo Alto Networks PA-850 Firewall with rack mounts and power supplies from ePlus Technology Inc. in the amount of $ 10,044.05; and
2) One (1) Extreme Summit x450G2 Network Switch with power supplies from ConvergeOne in the amount of $11,942.84.
FUNDING: General Fund.

DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
In computing, a firewall is a network security system that monitors and controls incoming and outgoing network traffic based on predetermined security rules. A firewall typically establishes a barrier between physical and logical network segments. The Information Technologies (IT) Department currently employs existing firewalls between the County's internal network infrastructure and the Internet at several County locations.
The Elections department is moving to the newly purchased, Ponderosa Building located at 3883 Ponderosa Road in Shingle Springs. IT determined that a firewall and network switch are needed for Elections to move to this new location in order to significantly reduce the County’s cyber risk by creating additional security barriers between County departments.
Per Board Policy B-16, the addition of one (1) Palo Alto Networks PA-850 Firewall with rack mounts and power supplies, and one (1) Extreme Summit x450G2 Network Switch with power supplies to the County's Fixed Asset List requires Board approval.

The Board could decide to not approve these purchases.
