DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND:
For more than two decades, the Health Plan of San Joaquin (HPSJ) has provided healthcare services to the Central Valley community as a non-profit Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) that receives public funding. HPSJ has collaborated with the Medi-Cal Managed Care Division (MMCD) of the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) to deliver healthcare to Medi-Cal members through organized systems of care networks that prioritize primary and preventive care. This approach ensures high-quality healthcare and improves access to it while being cost-effective.

In 2024, HPSJ plans to expand its services to the Medi-Cal community in El Dorado County. As part of this effort, HPSJ is seeking board representation and has requested that El Dorado County nominate a potential HPSJ board member. This presents a unique opportunity for the nominee to have a direct impact on HPSJ's operations ensuring they represent the unique needs of El Dorado County. The individual nominated should have a broad health perspective and can be a member of the EDC Board of Supervisors, a MediCal provider, a MediCal member, or a County Employee. Many counties place public health leadership in this position as they often have a broad health perspective. Board meetings meet on the last Wednesday of every month from 5-7PM.
