Body
DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
During the FY 2022-23 budget process, the Sheriff presented to the Board that the Sheriff’s Office (EDSO) needs a helicopter to assist with Search and Rescue, tactical missions, and an overview of public safety. At times, the EDSO has to request air support from allied law enforcement agencies, but this requires EDSO to be dependent on availability of others and at times of an emergency that is not always an option. The helicopter is ready to be picked up by EDSO staff in mid-October.

The US Department of Transportation, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), requires that a registration application be submitted prior to taking ownership of any aircraft. EDSO is requesting this authorization to execute any application documents required for the purpose of registering any EDSO-owned aircraft for the Aviation Unit, including documents required by the FAA. EDSO is also requesting the ratification of the Undersheriff’s signature on the FAA Aircraft Registration Application for the newly purchased helicopter that was required prior to the Board meeting date.

ALTERNATIVES
If the Board chooses not to approve this request, EDSO will not be able to submit registration documents to take possession of the helicopter.
