Body
DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
The State of California Division of Boating and Waterways provides the Sheriff’s Office with an annual grant for an intervention program on the County’s lakes and waterways. As an extension of that program, the State also offers equipment grants for items above and beyond the cost of the day-to-day operation of the boat patrol program.

This grant cycle the State has awarded the Sheriff’s Office funding toward the purchase of Handheld GPS Navigators, Image Stabilization Waterproof Binoculars, Marine Thermal Handled Cameras, and first aid kits.

Upon acceptance of this funding, the Sheriff’s Office will begin the procurement process for this equipment. The goal is for the Sheriff’s Office to acquire this equipment so that it can be utilized year-round in various bodies of water.

ALTERNATIVES
The Board could choose not to accept this award, however, the equipment for the boat patrol program would not be purchased or would be purchased with General Fund.
