Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost: The not-to-exceed amount of this multi-year Agreement is $56,000. Funding was anticipated and incorporated into the Mental Health Division's FY 09-10 budget. Future year funding has been approved, is available, and will be included in the budgets for the upcoming years. There is no Net County Cost associated with this Agreement.

Reason for Recommendation: There is an identified shortage in small rural counties of mental health professionals trained to work in a rural setting. There has also been a lack of specialized training in the region to produce these professionals. El Dorado County has joined with other counties in the region to initiate a program at California State University, Sacramento (CSUS) to train mental health professionals to serve the region. The program is a three-year, weekend intensive course of study that will result in successful student participants receiving a Masters in Social Work (MSW) with a rural mental health focus.
