Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost: The total amount of this revenue generating Agreement is $25,000. There is no Net County Cost associated with this Agreement.

Reason for Recommendation: Alpine County has the smallest population of any California county, and, therefore, has limited resources to provide psychiatric emergency services to its residents. As Alpine County borders El Dorado County, a collaborative relationship benefits both counties.

This agreement will allow the Mental Health Division to provide psychiatric emergency intervention, evaluation, and assistance on an as requested basis for Alpine County residents. These services will include assessment pursuant to Penal Code Section 5150 and a determination of the appropriate type of response. Assessments will be conducted either at Barton Hospital in South Lake Tahoe or at a detention facility in El Dorado County, as appropriate. Psychiatric emergency services will be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Transportation to El Dorado County will be provided by Alpine County law enforcement.

This Agreement will become effective when executed and will cover the period through June 30, 2011.
