Background: On June 2, 2009 the Board of Supervisors approved the membership of the solid waste working committee (Committee), which was composed of partner agencies such as the City of Placerville, the El Dorado Hills Community Services District, the Cameron Park Community Services District, and the South Lake Tahoe Basin Waste Management Authority, as well as members of the business community, education community and interested members of the public. During this meeting the Board also directed the Environmental Management Department to work with the Committee to develop a Request for Proposals (RFP) for a countywide Solid Waste Management Plan. The RFP was subsequently developed, approved by the Board and released on September 29, 2009, and closed on October 27, 2009. The Committee reviewed the responses to the RFP, interviewed each respondent, and recommended the County select the Newpoint Group to perform the work. The Board approved the recommendation to select the NewPoint Group to write a countywide Solid Waste Management Plan on February 23, 2010 and directed the Environmental Management Department to negotiate the contract terms and return to the Board for contract execution.

Given the successful collaborative solid waste planning effort to date between the County and our agency partners, letters to the jurisdictions requesting their respective financial support for the development of the countywide Solid Waste Management Plan are being brought before the Board for signature from the Chair.
