Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost: This letter of support has no financial implication to the County.
Background: Animal Outreach of the Mother Lode, located in Diamond Springs, is a low cost not-for-profit animal rescue group and spay/neuter clinic whose mission is to reduce the number of cats euthanized in the area by providing low cost spay/neuter programs to the public. Animal Outreach's focus on sterilization, placement, and adoption of cats lessens the burden on the County Animal Services shelter by reducing the number of kittens born in the community. Animal Outreach and the County Animal Services Program have worked collaboratively throughout the years to reduce overpopulation of domesticated animals in the community, thus reducing the volume of animals who come into the shelter for care and placement.
Animal Outreach intends to apply to Pet Smart Charities for a grant to be used for the humane trapping, sterilization, and care of feral felines, with a program for subsequent placement/release as appropriate.
Reason for Recommendation: Board of Supervisors Policy A-5 Grant Endorsements for Non-County Agencies, requires Departments to obtain approval from the Board prior to providing endorsement for non-county grant applications. Animal Outreach of the Mother Lode proposes to submit a grant application which is consistent with the Health Services Department Animal Services Program's goals of reducing animal overpopulation and controlling stray animals within the County of El Dorado.
