Title
Supervisor Briggs recommending the Board adopt a Resolution in opposition to Proposition 19 - A proposal to legalize marijuana under California but not federal law and to permit local governments to regulate and tax commercial production, distribution and sale of marijuana.  Resolution 156-2010
Body
Supervisor Briggs requesting the Board adopt attached Resolution in opposition to Proposition 19, a proposal to legalize the recreational use of marijuana in California by allowing people 21 years old and older to possess, cultivate, or transport marijuana for personal use.  Proposition 19 also proposes to permit local governments to regulate and tax the commercial production, distribution and sale of marijuana.  The marijuana related activities proposed under Proposition 19 would continue to be prohibited under the existing federal laws that both classify marijuana as an illegal substance and provide criminal penalties for various activities related to its use.

Upon adoption, Supervisor Briggs requests that copies of the Resolution in opposition to Proposition 19 be provided to Assemblyman Ted Gaines, Assemblywoman Alyson Huber, the office of the First Senate District (Senator Dave Cox), the Regional Council of Rural Counties and the California State Association of Counties.
