There is no cost associated with this program. Participant wages and Workers’ Compensation are paid by the AARP Foundation Senior Community Services Employment Program (SCSEP). The SCSEP is federally funded under Title V of the Older Americans Act.

Background:
The Senior Community Services Employment Program (SCSEP) is a federal program that places seniors age 55+ with non-profit or public agencies in temporary on-the-job training positions to gain the skills and experience necessary to obtain permanent, unsubsidized employment. The Department of Human Services (Community Services Division) was a host agency from 1995 to 2002 for the SCSEP when the program was administered by California Green Thumb. The SCSEP for El Dorado County is now administered by the AARP Foundation.

On April 21, 2009 (Agenda Item #10, Legistar File 09-0439) the Board approved the use of the AARP Foundation Host Agency Agreement as a boilerplate agreement and authorized the DHS Director, Assistant Director or any DHS Program Manager II to sign the boilerplate agreement. The Department currently has four SCSEP participants placed at various DHS sites.
