Title: Library Department recommending the Board take the following actions: 1) Accept Grant Award LSTA 40-7709 with the California State Library providing funds in the amount of $15,000 for the term of January 15, 2011 through June 30, 2011 to provide equipment and supplies for implementing a Family Place resource center in the Cameron Park Library. 2) Authorize the Chair to sign related grant documents; and 3) Authorize the Chair to sign Budget Transfer 2011023 appropriating the funds for same. Background:
The California State Library is providing federal Library Services and Technology Act funding for the purchase of the equipment, furnishings, supplies and educational materials to develop a Family Place resource area centered in the children's room of the Cameron Park Library. Family Place is an initiative of the state library that promotes access to developmentally appropriate materials, toys and activities for parents and their young children. As part of the grant the Cameron Park Library will also hold a five-week workshop emphasizing an understanding of child development, community resources and advice from local professionals. The Library's current agreement with First 5 El Dorado will provide funding for staff involved in the project.
