Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost: There is no cost (of any type) associated with this letter of support.

Background: The Health Services Department and Shingle Springs Tribal Health Program have a long-standing relationship, working effectively together to respond to the needs of Native American Indian children and families in the County. Shingle Springs Tribal Health Program intends to submit a proposal for the State and Tribal Youth Suicide Prevention Grant being offered by SAMHSA for 2011. This grant involves the development of strategies to address suicide prevention for the Native American Indian youth, involving collaboration among youth-serving institutions and agencies including, but not limited to, schools, educational institutions, juvenile justice systems, foster care systems, substance abuse and mental health programs, and other child and youth-supporting organizations.

Reason for Recommendation: Board of Supervisors Policy A-5, Grant Endorsements for Non-County Agencies, requires Departments to obtain approval from the Board of Supervisors prior to endorsement for non-county grant applications. Approval of this letter of support will allow the Department to endorse Shingle Springs Tribal Health Program in its endeavor to develop and implement suicide prevention strategies for the Native American Indian youth and their families.
