Department of Human Services recommending the Board approve and authorize the Director to sign a letter of support for Tahoe Turning Point, Inc. to seek to open a Level 10 Vocational Group Home that will provide substance abuse counseling, mental health counseling and vocational training and provide a safe and healthy environment for children in our community who come under the jurisdiction of the El Dorado County Superior/Juvenile Dependency Court.

Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost: There is no cost (of any type) associated with this letter of support.
Reason for Recommendation: The Department of Human Services has enjoyed a collaborative relationship with Tahoe Turning Point since 2008 for the provision of emergency shelter care, foster care, placement services, therapeutic counseling and substance abuse testing on an "as requested" basis for clients referred by the Department.
Tahoe Turning Point seeks to open a Level 10 Vocational Group Home to provide substance abuse counseling, mental health counseling and vocational training and to provide a safe and healthy environment for children in our community who need these services. This type of facility, located in El Dorado County, would provide the Department with additional local treatment and placement options. At present, many of our youth in need of this level of placement have to be referred outside the El Dorado County community.
Approval of this Board item will allow the Department to sign the letter of support endorsing Tahoe Turning Point in its endeavor to open a Level 10 Vocational Group Home.
Action to be taken following Board approval: Department Director to sign letter of support and forward to Tahoe Turning Point for inclusion with its application to open a Level 10 Vocational Group Home.
