Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost:
There is no fiscal impact and no change to Net County Cost associated with this item.

Background:
The Buckeye Education Foundation is sponsoring a 5K and a 10K Run for the "Making the Grade / Run for Education" event on Sunday, June 19, 2011.

The 5K Run is primarily on trails, sidewalks and the old El Dorado Hills Golf Course.  The route will cross Serrano Parkway at Silva Valley Parkway.  Sponsors propose allowing runners to cross at the signal under the guidance of Sheriff Deputies when the signal turns green.  Flaggers and cones will hold traffic when it crosses the runner's paths at the crosswalk at the exit from the neighborhood onto Serrano Parkway.

The 10K Run is contained on trails, sidewalks and the old El Dorado Hills Golf Course.   Flaggers and cones will also hold traffic when it crosses the runner's paths at the crosswalk at the exit from the neighborhood onto Serrano Parkway, Silva Valley Parkway, Harvard Way and El Dorado Hills Boulevard.

Sponsors anticipate approximately 500-1000 participants for this combined event.  The requested road closure is for the safety of the participants, children, volunteers, and spectators along the course.

Reason for Recommendation:
The Department of Transportation is recommending the Board approve the proposed Resolution for the safety and success of this event.  No involved agencies objected to this closure.

Action to be taken following Board approval:
1)  The Board Clerk will obtain the Chair's signature on the Resolution.
2)  The Board Clerk will send an executed copy of the Resolution to the Department of Transportation.
