BACKGROUND: The most recent bid for patrol vehicles for the Sheriff’s Department was awarded to Folsom Lake Ford on March 9, 2010 (BOS Item #3). The bid was used to purchase sixteen Crown Victoria Police Interceptors eligible for replacement and included in the fiscal year 2010/2011 budget.

The vendor recently contacted Department of Transportation staff and offered to provide 2011 Crown Victoria Police Interceptors at the price and with the warranty package that was bid in March of 2010. Ford Motor Company plans to discontinue the Crown Victoria after 2011 but made a limited number of production slots available to the vendor.

REASON FOR RECOMMENDATION: It would be beneficial for the County to purchase eight additional Crown Victoria Police Interceptors to replace those that are due to exceed target miles. It is necessary to place the order immediately to take advantage of this last production run and the favorable pricing. Delivery of the vehicles will take place during fiscal year 2011/2012 and no additional orders for patrol vehicles are anticipated until fiscal year 2012/2013.
