Title
Supervisor Briggs recommending the Board approve a Proclamation honoring the Golden Sierra High School Construction Program, the program's instructor Larry Highberger, and the Golden Sierra High School students who have participated in the program. (Est. Time: 5 Min.)
Body
The Golden Sierra High School Construction Program, under the leadership of the program's instructor Larry Highberger, is known throughout the Sacramento Region's construction industry for the excellent construction trade education the program has provided to the students at Golden Sierra High School.

Beginning in 1987, the Sacramento Regional Builders Exchange has hosted an annual Design/Build Competition with the goal to promote career awareness of the construction industry among high school students.  The competition judges high school teams on the completion of design, plan review, safety, building inspections, and all phases of construction of a 96 square foot structure.

The Golden Sierra High School Construction Program has participated in 24 of the 25 annual competitions and is awarded 1st Place or "Best in Show" almost every year.  This has resulted in the judges holding the Golden Sierra students to a higher quality standard.

The 25th Annual Sacramento Regional Builders Exchange Design/Build Competition was conducted May 4 - 5, 2011, at Cosumnes River College in Sacramento.  This year, the Golden Sierra High School Construction Program was again awarded the "Best in Show" along with the "Craftsmanship" and "Team Safety" awards.
