Title
Agriculture, Weights and Measures Department recommending the Board receive and file the El Dorado-Alpine Counties 2010 Agricultural Crop and Livestock Report.
Body
Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost:  There is no fiscal impact.

Background:
In accordance with Section 2279 of the California Food and Agricultural Code, the department is submitting the 2010 El Dorado & Alpine Counties Crop Report.

The El Dorado County gross crop value for 2010 was $35 million; this is an overall decrease of 6.7% from the 2009 values. The decline was due mainly to weather related damage and a continued decrease in timber harvesting. Specifically fruit and nut crops decreased 16% due to weather damage and reduced harvests.  Timber harvesting continued to decline represented by a 31% decrease from 2009.  Timber harvest has declined by 93% since 2007.  Other commodities showed an increase in 2010 which helped soften the impact to our county.

The monetary values in this report are F.O.B. (Freight On Board) and do not reflect net returns or profits realized by the growers.  It is estimated that the impact of agriculture on El Dorado County's economy totaled approximately $360 million in 2010 of which the wine industry contributed an estimated $158 million while Apple Hill added another $108 million.

The Alpine County gross crop value for 2010 was estimated to be $5.05 million which is an 8% increase from the 2009 value. The increase is due to increases in cattle, calves, hay and pasture which all benefited from the weather in 2010.

Action to be taken following Board approval:
Board is to receive and file report.
