Title

Department of Human Services recommending the Board authorize the Chair to sign Affiliation Agreement 548-O1111 with the University of Houston for the term September 1, 2011 through August 31, 2016 for the placement of dietetic student interns with said Department.

Body

Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost:

No change.  There is no Net County Cost or remuneration associated with this intern Affiliation Agreement.

Reason for Recommendation:

The University of Houston’s (University) Dietetic Internship Program is an accredited, post-baccalaureate supervised practice program that qualifies graduates to take the Registered Dietitian examination.  The University of Houston offers a distance education option for this internship program which requires interns to find local preceptors.  A local UC Davis graduate, who has been accepted into the University's Dietetic Internship Program, approached the Department of Human Services (DHS) to complete the community nutrition rotation portion of her internship within DHS' Senior Nutrition Program and the Supplemental Food Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) which are both supervised by Registered Dietitians.

Affiliation Agreement 548-O1111 delineates responsibilities of each party relative to the participation of student interns enrolled in the University’s Dietetic Internship Program and will enable placement of dietetic interns within DHS to receive educational experience while performing specified job duties as assigned and supervised by DHS staff in the WIC and Senior Nutrition programs.

The Agreement is effective September 1, 2011 until the end of the University’s academic year, which is September 1 through August 31, and shall automatically renew for up to four additional term(s) consisting of succeeding academic years.

Action to be taken following Board approval:

1)                     Chair to sign two (2) original Agreements.

2)                     Board Clerk to return two (2) original Agreements to Department.

3)                     Department to distribute as appropriate and return one fully executed Agreement to the Board Clerk.
