Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost:
Funding from First 5 El Dorado was anticipated to be $442,002 in the FY 2011/12 Recommended Budget approved by the Board in June. Due to state budget actions, First 5 El Dorado has reduced the grant contract amount by $189,002. The Library will submit a budget adjustment in the FY 2011-12 Addenda process to reflect this change. This adjustment will result in no change to Net County Cost.

Background:
First 5 El Dorado has contracted with the Library over the last five years to provide early literacy services and programs to over 2,000 children and their caregivers at all six library branches and Northside School, as well as outreach services to early childhood education sites, medical clinics and offices and other community sites. With First 5 funding, Library staff have developed a variety of effective age-appropriate early literacy classes, known as Ready to Read @ the Library, that have successfully helped the library to achieve its mission to promote literacy and education.

Reason for Recommendation:
This agreement continues the Ready to Read @ the Library program. The FY 2011/2012 Recommended Budget anticipated $444,002 in First 5 funding for the Library. Due to state budget actions, First 5 El Dorado has reduced this request by $189,002 for a total grant of $255,000....
