There is no fiscal impact associated with this agenda item. The obligation came when the Board approved Agreement # 213-S0711.

Background:
On September 26, 2006 the Board approved Agreement # 213-S0711 with George Miers and Associates, Architects and Planners, Inc. (George Miers) for architectural services necessary for the West Slope Animal Control Shelter Project (Project). The Agreement covers the design, construction drawings and construction administration through the completion of the Project.

Reason for Recommendation:
Amendment I to Agreement # 213-S0711 is needed to change the name of the Corporation on the original Agreement to enable the County to process payment for continued services provided as directed by the Board to the Department of Transportation (Department) to move forward with the completion of the Project.

On April 9, 2009 George Miers participated and joined in the formation of a new Corporation, Swatt Miers Architects, Inc. (Swatt Miers). Amendment I to Agreement # 213-S0711 is necessary to confirm the assignment of George Miers to Swatt Miers in order to continue the relationship with this firm, whose principal architect is still George Miers, P.E. (Architect) assigned to the Project. The specialized nature of the work requires the expertise of an architect specializing in animal shelters to ensure the health and safety of the facility users.

Department staff is currently negotiating with the Architect to amend the Scope of Work and Compensation of Agreement # 213-S0711. Also included in the negotiations are ...
