DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
On January 23, 2024, the Board approved the reassignment of the Airports program from the Planning and Building Department to the Chief Administrative Office, to be effective July 1, 2024 (Legistar Item 23-2157). In preparation for this transition staff in the Department and the Chief Administrative Office have been meeting to share information about the program, current projects, and outstanding issues.

On June 25, 2024, the Board appointed an Ad Hoc Committee on Airports, composed of Supervisors Thomas (District III) and Parlin (District IV) to work with staff to study airport issues, including operations, ordinance and policies, the Airports Advisory Committee, Airports Capital Improvements, Economic Development Study, and funding strategies (Legistar Item 24-1090).

As a result of their first meeting with staff on the subject, the Ad Hoc Committee has determined that it is necessary to comprehensively review the airports program, including the role of the Airport Advisory Committee. Pausing the assembly of this Committee will allow for the Ad Hoc Committee to focus efforts on the recommendations for the program as a whole
