Reason For Recommendation
The 2014 Festival of the Americas Pow Wow event was postponed because the originally scheduled event at the County Fairgrounds was preempted by the King Fire command center. Efforts to reschedule the event for the late summer, early fall of 2016 are underway. The event attracts multiple tribes from California, Oregon and Washington to the multi-day event.

The Festival of the Americas Pow Wow is a two-day cultural event designed to provide Native Americans an opportunity to embrace their culture through music, dance, ceremony and tradition, reinforcing the connection between person, tribe and community. For non-Native people, the event offers a glimpse into significant ceremonies and traditions based on reciprocity, respect, and reverence for all things and all people. During certain times, non-Native people are invited to participate in friendship and intertribal dances.

At its April 8, 2014 meeting, the Board of Supervisors heard a presentation from James Marquez, Executive Director of the Foothill Indian Education Alliance and Chair of the Festival of the Americas Committee and authorized a contribution in the amount of $10,000 to provide financial support to the Festival of the Americas Pow Wow cultural event.
