Information Technologies recommending the Board authorize the purchase of one Dell PowerEdge server (fixed asset) in an amount not to exceed $12,000 utilizing savings available in the department’s services and supplies budget. This equipment is necessary to complete the department’s project to upgrade network security.

DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
The FY 2015-16 budget for Information Technologies includes funding for a project to upgrade the County’s network security. On December 15, 2015, the Board awarded Bid 16-208-018 for Bit9 and Carbon Black security software and implementation and training services and authorized the Purchasing Agent to sign PO201609617 in the amount of $99,695 to Government Technology Solutions for same. The purchase of the Bit9 and Carbon Black software provides significantly enhanced network security through endpoint protection and incident handling and ensures compliance with state and federal security related guidelines.

Subsequent to the purchase of the software, Information Technologies staff determined that server equipment is needed to replace existing underperforming servers and to fully implement the new security upgrades.
