Reason for Recommendation:

On June 5, 2007 agenda item #7 (07-730), the Board approved the District Attorney's request to apply for the Workers Compensation Fraud Grant. Subsequently, the California Department of Insurance has approved $205,000 for FY 07/08. The District Attorney's office originally budgeted $175,000.

Efforts to combat workers compensation fraud have been expanded considerably since January 2007. As a result the Department of Insurance has expanded the grant from the FY 06/07 level of $49,944 to $205,000 for FY 07/08.

On August 14, 2007 agenda item #10 (07-415), the Board approved the District Attorney's request to apply for the Auto Insurance Fraud Program. This was an increase of $120,000 to the FY 07/08 original budget. The additio...
