Human Services Department, Community Services Division, recommending the Assistant Director of said Department's signature be ratified on a Placerville Rotary Club application to its parent organization for a grant in the amount of $2,000 to augment and provide sufficient funding for its planned donation of equipment to furnish a Computer Lab for senior citizens at the Placerville Senior Center, noting said signature holds Rotary and its staff harmless in relation to use of the donated equipment.

Reason for Recommendation:
Human Services has long recognized the need and desire of our community’s senior citizens to have access to and receive training on how to use computers and the internet to enable them to research available health care and other resources and maintain contact with the modern world. Due in part to the cost, but primarily due to space constraints, Human Services has been unable to meet this significant need. The relocation of HEART staff from Spring Street to the new Briw Road facility will allow the Department to dedicate a room for this purpose, and the Placerville Rotary Club intends to donate the equipment for a 6-station computer lab with printer. Human Services staff will oversee and coordinate use of the new computer lab and has identified potential volunteer instructors. County staff will coordinate installation and set up of the computers to ensure compliance with County IT policy requirements.
