DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDATION
Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) recommending the Board adopt and authorize the Chair to sign a Resolution in support of a California State Budget increase for the Senior Nutrition Programs. Despite continued county-wide and statewide population growth among seniors, federal and state funding for senior nutrition programs has remained stagnant.

DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
The California Association of Agencies on Aging notes that statewide, the senior nutrition programs serve over 17 million meals per year to over 223,000 seniors. In El Dorado County, HHSA's Senior Nutrition Program services over 175,000 meals per year to over 2,000 seniors. With the senior population representing the fastest growing age group, there is an increased demand for senior nutrition meals. However, state and federal funding for senior nutrition programs has remained flat. County of El Dorado has historically provided significant general fund dollars to the Senior Nutrition Program. The California Association of Agencies on Aging, the El Dorado County Commission on Aging, and the Congress of California Seniors support a $5.4 million increase to the State Budget for Senior Nutrition Programs.

ALTERNATIVES
The Board may elect to not adopt this Resolution, which will prevent the County from formally supporting a State Budget increase for Senior Nutrition Programs.
