Ryan White C.A.R.E. Act services for the term of July 1, 2007 through June 30, 2008. Sufficient appropriations have been included in the FY 07-08 adopted budget. There is no net County cost.

Background: The Ryan White C.A.R.E. Act provides direct emergency services for people living with HIV disease. Services include, but are not limited to, information, referrals and/or arrangement of outpatient medical care, skilled nursing, medication management, diagnosis and treatment of common medical and mental conditions, and addressing nutrition issues to include direct food purchases as well as support to local food banks in El Dorado County. Staff is available on a 24 hour basis for client medical emergencies.

Reason for Recommendation: El Dorado County Ryan White services are subcontracted out to Sierra Foothills AIDS Foundation, an agency with staff who have expertise in this specialized type of service and with whom the County has enjoyed a longstanding, successful relationship.

This agreement is retroactive to July 1, 2007 due to the additional time needed by staff to evaluate the availability of funding from Sacramento County, which informed the Department in late July that funding was to be reduced.
