Background
The Regents of the University of California received a grant of Federal funds from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration in support of the University’s “California Telehealth Network eHealth Broadband Adoption” program. The County, as a participating member of ACCEL, received three (3) Telehealth telemedicine units that are located as follows: one is in the medical treatment area at the adult detention facility in Placerville, one is at the juvenile detention facility in South Lake Tahoe, and one is at the juvenile detention facility in Placerville. During the term of the Agreement, the equipment is on loan to the County by U.C. Davis.

Reason for Recommendation
Upon the Agreement’s termination on June 30, 2013, ownership of the telemedicine units will be transferred to the County. Two of the units (South Lake Tahoe and Placerville juvenile detention centers) have maintenance support agreements that expire February 21, 2014. UC Davis voluntarily extended the maintenance support agreement for the unit at the Placerville adult detention center through June 9, 2014, at no cost to the County.
