REASON FOR RECOMMENDATION: At the request of the General Services Department, the Procurement and Contracts Division issued an Invitation to Bid for the purchase of new and replacement fleet vehicles. The replacement of fleet vehicles is generally determined when the vehicle reaches the targeted mileage standardized by Fleet Management, or replaced due to accidents in which the vehicle could not be repaired. Eighteen (18) vehicle types were included in the bid solicitation. However, fifteen (15) of these vehicles were bid on an “as needed” basis and are not being awarded.

The vehicles recommended for purchase include 16 Sheriff Patrol sedans (Bid Vehicle A), three Sheriff Patrol sport utility vehicles (Bid Vehicle B) and three schoolbus yellow pick up trucks for the Department of Transportation.

The recommended vehicle purchases have been included in the FY 2008-09 budget and are in compliance with Board policy D-4, Vehicle Use - Privately Owned and County Owned Vehicles.
