Agricultural Department recommending the Board receive and file the El Dorado-Alpine Counties 2019 Agricultural Crop and Livestock Report.
Body
DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND
Department is requesting the Board receive and file the El Dorado-Alpine Counties 2019 Agricultural Crop and Livestock Report. Commissioner Carveth addressed that the gross crop value for the County of El Dorado was $74,516,035 million, representing a decrease of 1.3% from the 2018 values. While other crop values increased in 2019, timber values decreased by 25%, which can be directly attributed to a decrease in the timber harvested. Apples and apple products moved to the leading crop with a value of $18,996,472 million. Wine grapes values increased by 8.27% over 2018 values to $12,092,373 million.

Monetary values in this report are F.O.B. (Freight On Board) and do not reflect net returns or profits realized by the growers. It is estimated that the impact of agriculture to the County of El Dorado’s economy totaled approximately $703 million in 2019, of which, Apple Hill and value-added products contributed an estimated $274 million while the wine industry added another $382 million.

Alpine County’s gross crop value for 2019 was estimated to be $5.7 million. This represents an increase of 10% from the 2018 values. Increases in rangeland values and hay production were responsible for the increase.
