DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND:
The month of May has historically been named “Mental Health Awareness Month” both nationally and in the State of California. Since at least 2006, the County of El Dorado Board of Supervisors has adopted a proclamation naming May as “Mental Health Awareness Month.”

Mental Health is defined by the World Health Organization (WHO) as, “a state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make contributions to his or her community.” Mental Health is critical to the well-being of El Dorado County families, communities, schools, and businesses. As the community continues to emerge from the Public Health Emergency and carry on with the recovery effort from the Caldor and Mosquito fires, it is important to take note of how our community has come together to take care of each another. There is no better time to recognize these efforts than during Mental Health Awareness Month.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness, El Dorado (NAMI El Dorado) is pleased to present an award to Deputy Jeffrey Whitlock for his service to the community and specifically his efforts in bringing the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training to the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office.
