Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost: No change. Services are accessed on an “as requested” basis, and the not-to-exceed compensation of $10,000 allows for anticipated maximum potential usage. Funds are budgeted for the current fiscal year and will be budgeted for FY 10-11.

Reason for Recommendation: The Department of Human Services (DHS) contracts with multiple vendors to provide evidentiary exams for investigative purposes in cases where DHS determines that a client’s injuries warrant forensic examination by trained personnel to facilitate and enhance services provided to the client and when such an examination has not been scheduled by law enforcement. While this service is used infrequently, it is necessary to have contracts in place in the event that a client needs forensic examination services in an emergency and/or within an immediate timeframe. On occasion, when forensic examination services cannot be performed locally because of a lack of available qualified personnel, clients need to be transported to Placer County for the provision of required examinations.
