Supervisor Ranalli recommending the Board:
1) Receive and file presentation provided by Jeanne Amos, Library Director, and Jan Robbins, Branch Manager, El Dorado Hills Library, recognizing the community volunteers who dedicate their time and talent to support El Dorado County Libraries; and
2) Approve and authorize all five Board members to sign a Proclamation recognizing these volunteers for their service. (Est. Time: 20 Min.)

The El Dorado County Library enriches the lives of residents by promoting lifelong learning and literacy for all ages through its research and information services, educational programs and classes, community facilities, and comprehensive collections of traditional and current resources.
The El Dorado County Library has six branches located throughout the County, making these services and resources available to all County residents. Branches are located in Placerville (Main Library), El Dorado Hills, Cameron Park, Georgetown, Pollock Pines, and South Lake Tahoe. The Library also operates a Bookmobile that provides access to library materials and collections at various community sites. Limited Bookmobile service was reinstated in October 2009 with the use of donations.
The El Dorado County Library is supported by over 350 community volunteers who support the El Dorado County Library with specific tasks at each of the branch library locations, and as community volunteers who are part of the Friends of the Library of El Dorado County. Combined, these 350 volunteers provide over 16,000 hours of volunteer support to the El Dorado County Library each year.
Community volunteers provide valuable support to the El Dorado County Library at each of the library branch locations. These library volunteers:
Shelve Books and Shelf Read to Maintain Correct Order,
Pull, Shelve and Transfer Books for Patron Hold Requests,
Check In Books,
Sort Donations,
Process New Books and Re-label Books,
Train New Volunteers,
Mend Books and Other Materials,
Assist Staff at Educational Programs,
Maintain 3D Print Lab Projects and Offer Classes,
Water Plants, Dust and Clean Tables, Chairs and Books.
The community volunteers who are part of the Friends of the Library of El Dorado County also provide valuable support to the El Dorado County Library and each of the library branch locations. The Friends of the Library volunteers:
Plan and Host Library Fundraisers to Raise Funds for the Library,
Organize and Hold Book Sales,
Coordinate and Maintain Amazon Book Sales,
Hold Monthly Meetings, Maintain Reports and Budgets, Member Registration and Outreach and Event Planning,
Manage Accounts and Distribute Funds to Support Library Programs and Services,
Maintain Social Media and Webpage Sites,
Serve as Library Ambassadors at Community Events and Programs.
The mission of the Friends of the Library of El Dorado County is to support its libraries in El Dorado County, their patrons and staff; to support library and community outreach programs, services and facilities; to enrich the lives of El Dorado County residents by advocating the use of our libraries and to support our libraries through fundraising efforts which include memberships, gifts and endowments.
Each of the individual branch libraries also receives support from teen library volunteers who organize and host teen programs; support and participate in Summer Reading Challenge programs; and create displays.
The El Dorado County Library is able to provide services, programs, classes and resources to residents of all ages throughout the County of El Dorado due to the dedication and commitment of the time, talent and energy of these community volunteers.
