Fiscal Impact/Change to Net County Cost
This is a 20% matching grant, requiring $50,000 in matching funds. The Sheriff's Office's Operational Budget (index 241110 Admin and 243111 Custody) will be used to meet the matching requirement. This funding results in a decrease to Net County Cost of $79,687.49 due to utilizing existing staff and shifting duties from core Patrol services to training that will expand the expertise of the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) members from Patrol. The objective is to better equip CIT members with tactics and techniques to better service those individuals with mental health issues that they may come in contact with.


Background
In March 2013, the Sheriff’s Office applied for a grant to increase public safety by facilitating collaboration among the criminal justice, juvenile justice, mental health and substance abuse treatment systems to increase access to mental health and other treatment services for those individuals with mental illness or co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
