Body

DISCUSSION / BACKGROUND

The 2015-16 Grand Jury issued one report (21st Century County Charter) that contained recommendations to the Board for amendments to the County Charter.  In the discussion of the Board's response to that Grand Jury report, it was decided that the Board would not place any recommended Charter Amendments on a ballot, and would instead defer the consideration of those recommendations to a Charter Review Committee.  The Charter Review Committee would then make recommendations to the Board.

The 2017-18 Charter Review Committee held 10 meetings between June 26, 2017 and January 8, 2018 and determined the recommendations shown on attachment A.  For reference, the corresponding agenda files as considered by the Committee are related to this Legistar file.

This agenda item is for information purposes only and does not constitute formal recommendations for Board approval. County Counsel, and other county staff as may be needed, have begun the process of evaluating the Charter Review Committee's recommendations and will prepare necessary documentation for official Board consideration at a future meeting.
